DEWA Smart Valve Pilot Project

WATER CONTROL (NON-REVENUE WATER) HAS GREATER RELEVANCE AND REGIONAL IMPORTANCE FOR THE UAE AS THE MAJOR PROBLEM IN WATER TRANSMISSION, DISTRIBUTION & IRRIGATION NETWORKS ARE WATER AND ENERGY LOSSES.

GCG Engineering Services, together with their partner Oxford Flow proposed to revolutionize DEWA’s existing system with the innovative Smart Valve system. The Oxford Flow Smart Valve would monitor and control flow parameters as requested by the DEWA network. Pressure sensors are also installed throughout the area to identify anomalies. The Smart Valve also has sensors to detect and measure flow rate, pressure, temperature, chlorine, pH levels, conductivity, ORP, turbidity & valve position.

The numbers added up, and GCG-ES completed the installation of the world’s first Smart Valve system at DEWA (Ras Al Khor) with a fully Autonomous Smart Valve & Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) that communicates directly with DEWA’s SCADA (Supervisory control and data acquisition) System.

Upon successful completion of the pilot project, DEWA plans to convert many other locations to the SMART VALVE SYSTEM.
